The Christmas Wedding was the 49th overall episode of The Jeffersons TV series, also the 12th episode of Season 3. Directed by Jack Shea and written by Mike Moriarty and Jay Milligan, the episode made its premiere on CBS-TV on December 22, 1976.
Synopsis[]
Furious when the Jeffersons forbid her to let her boyfriend stay overnight, Florence quits her job - to the distress of Louise and the delight of George.
Storyline[]
Everyone is in the Christmas spirit, that is except for Tom and George! Christmas Eve brings disharmony to the Jefferson household when George argues with Tom over the preparations for Lionel and Jenny's wedding, namely, concering the skin color and denomination of the presiding minister. A group of carolers lead by a Baptist minister (who, incidentally, is white) gives Louise a great idea to stop the bickering between George and Tom.
Trivia[]
In spite of Norman Lear's history of targeting the religious right, the episode was more tolerant towards Oral Roberts, who Lionel pointed out was a good white preacher. Roberts was also more moderate than the later targets of Norman Lear's later group People for the American Way.
