Biography[]
Edie, before her transition, served in the Korean War with George Jefferson for two years, and was his close friend and bunkmate. During this time, unbeknownst to anybody else, she struggled with gender dysphoria, later saying "Everything about me was a woman, except for the way I looked".
Sometime after her service, Edie underwent sex reassignment surgery and socially transitioned into living as a woman, losing most of her friends in the process.
In the Season 4 episode "Once a Friend", Edie comes to New York after not speaking with George since they served together, and comes out to him. George is unaccepting at first, but warms up to her slightly by the end of the episode.
