Ebonie Smith, also known as Ebony Smith (born Negra Candalaria-Smith; September 16, 1978) is a Puerto Rican-born American former child actress known for her role as Jessica Jefferson in the sitcom The Jeffersons in four episodes in Seasons 10 and 11. She was sometimes credited as Ebony Smith. Smith also played character M'Lila on the television series Xena and portrayed a young La Toya Jackson on the television miniseries The Jacksons: An American Dream. She is also known for playing Carrie Murtaugh in the Lethal Weapon movies and had recurring roles on Webster and Family Matters.
Smith is the daughter of Michelle Smith and a police officer father.[1] She is of African American and Dominican descent. She has a Fine Arts degree in Film Production and Chinese Language and Culture. Along with English and Spanish, she also speaks Mandarin Chinese.
After completing high school, the former child actress attended college and earned a fine arts degree in Film Production and Chinese Language and Culture. According to IMDB she speaks the Mandarin language fluently. While in college she continued to act and even spent some time on a daytime soap, as the character Latisha on The Bold and the Beautiful. One of her last appearances was on the TV movie Ali: An American Hero (2000) where she played Belinda, the second wife of the boxing legend.
In 2004, Ebonie Smith switched course and went to medical school at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine. After graduating in 2007, she went on to complete her residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Since 2008 she’s been a licensed practicing Psychiatrist in California. At some point in her busy career she found the time to get married. She’s now Dr. Ebonie Vazquez, M.D. Psychiatry Physician. She officially retired from acting in 2002.
